2019 WSOP Day 41: Main Event Makes the Money

Written by Jennifer Newell
Last updated on July 9th, 2019

It might seem odd to read down this post and find a random tournament out of numerical order and not seen on the original schedule. But Event 90 does belong in this list, as it was added late as a special tournament long after the original schedule was released.

WSOP VP of Corporate Communications Seth Palansky said, “We got some feedback from players who thought (the initial $50K event) was too early in the series, and they weren’t around for it. We also goofed by not having a $25K High Roller NLHE on the schedule this year, which was more feedback we received from players.”

Event 90 is called the Final Fifty High Roller, one with a $50K buy-in, unlimited reentries, and a shot clock, all put together for a three-day event.

With the Final Fifty now included, this is what happened on Monday, July 8 at the 50th Annual World Series of Poker in Las Vegas.

Notable Information

The final hand of the night in the Main Event was the one that burst the money bubble. And the unfortunate player who busted in 1,287th place was Ryan Pochedly. As a consolation prize, he was awarded an entry to the 2020 WSOP Main Event, something done annually by WSOP staff.

There were quite a few former WSOP champs starting Day 3 looking for another Main Event victory, but several of them – Scotty Nguyen, Joe Hachem, John Cynn, and Jim Bechtel – exited before the money. However, Chris Moneymaker, Qui Nguyen, and Johnny Chan remain in the tournament going into Day 4.
