Monday was the second-last day of the 2021 World Series of Poker in Las Vegas. Employees at the Rio Convention Center were clearing ballrooms, folding poker tables, and stacking chairs. Only two bracelet events played out on Monday in the Amazon Room, one being the $100K buy-in High Roller and the other a $5K buy-in Hold’em tournament.
These two events were the last opportunity for many players to win a 2021 WSOP bracelet and rack up points on the Player of the Year leaderboard. While WSOP Europe is just getting underway in the Czech Republic, not all players will be able to or willing to go halfway around the world to participate.
Let’s check in with the totals before the absolute final day of the WSOP at the Rio in Las Vegas.
Event 87: $100K NLHE High Roller
A small but mighty field started this tournament on Sunday. On Monday, just a couple dozen players unbagged chips with a few players getting in – by entry or reentry – before registration closed. That set the prize pool at more than $6.1M, enough to pay the top 10 players.
Mark Herm was the bubble player, out in 11th place and just missing the $167K min-cash. Fedor Holz was the first to bust in the money, at which point the final nine took seats at a single table. Bill Klein was the first to go, courtesy of Aussie Michael Addamo, who then proceeded to oust Mikita Badziakouski in eighth place. Herm took out Sam Grafton in seventh, but Addamo stepped back in to oust Sorel Mizzi in sixth place. That leaves five players to play it out on the final day.
More than 500 entries in the last 2021 WSOP event in Las Vegas created a prize pool of more than $2.4M. The impressive field played down rather quickly, making its way into the money late into the evening. They played down to 30 survivors, with Ben Yu at the top looking for his second bracelet of the year. But players like Shaun Deeb, Ramon Colillas, and Danny Wong are also in the top ten, with even more holding on to some chips with which to mount a possible comeback.
