Seven tournaments were in action at some point or another on Day 10 of the 2022 World Series of Poker. This is typical of a WSOP day. There were three new tournaments that started, and the others were in various stages of their playdowns.
It takes a lot to juggle the massive 88-tournament schedule that makes up the WSOP. And as the staff handle that, they prepare for the weekend. That means more players, especially with a big draw like the Monster Stack event on the schedule.
Essentially, Day 10 and its seven events were actually the calm before the storm.
Event 14: $1,500 NLHE 6-Handed
The third and final day of play started with 16 players, but names like Anson Tsang, Mustapha Kanit, and Ronit Chamani fell early in the day. And former WSOP Main Event champion Joe Cada busted in seventh place on the final table bubble.
Leo Soma of France started the final table by busting Cada and sitting on the chip lead. He busted Ivan Zhechev in sixth, though Maximiliano Gallardo stepped in to bust Derek Sudell in fifth place. Soma ousted Daniel Wellborn in fourth and then Gallardo in third. Soma’s massive stack forced Thomas Schultz to make his move early in the heads-up match. He did so with K-9 of spades on a J-7-6-3 board with two spades. Soma had J-3 for top two, though, and the ten on the river didn’t have a flush for Schultz.
Soma grabbed the first win of the 2022 WSOP for the French.
With four days to play out, some of the pressure was off for Day 3. The 24 of the survivors from the previous day got it going, though players like Jake Shwartz, Johannes Becker, and Phillip Hui were among the first to exit. Connor Drinan followed, as did Kosei Ichinose, Roland Israelashvili, and former chipleader Bryce Yockey. Todd Brunson and Freddy Deeb went home after the dinner break, and Ray Henson followed.
Alex Livingston busted in seventh place, and finally, Bart O’Connell busted in sixth place. The final five then bagged their chips. They will unpack them at the final table today.
