‘Sharar’ Shines in January’s Freerollers Open Final for $75
The New Year began with a bang this week, as the latest Legal U.S. Poker Sites Freerollers Open finale ended with ‘Sharar’ at the top of the charts. The month-end tournament, which comes with a free prize pool of $250, saw 20 players make the money, with the top prize of $75 given away for free after Sharar beat the player ‘Rexy’ heads-up for the title.
Along with a dramatic $250 monthly finale, weekly events were also full in January, with many players from the end of January battle cashing every seven days too. The LUSPS Freerollers saw a total of 40 weekly winners and 20 monthly celebrate wins during the month of January, with drama all the way from the money bubble to the final table.
Reaching the money places in a freeroll is always paramount to any player, whether it is to build a bankroll or simply to have fun. In January, the 20th place finisher was ‘Titu961’, who scraped into profit and bagged the first $2.50 min-cash. They were followed into the books by others such as ‘Lucas’, ‘Advantage’ and Chombok’.
Other players banked more, as ‘BraVO’, ‘dad’ and ‘Wealth’ were all one of five players to win $4. As the money went up, regular player ‘Bastian’ once again made the money. Finishing in 10th place for $5, Bastian’s bust-out meant the final table was beginning, with nine players left in the hunt for the $75 top prize.
After Bastian’s departure, ‘dye’ fell in ninth place for the same score, before exits for ‘Ribeng’ (8th for $10), ‘Mountain’ (7th for $10) and ‘jarf’, who won $10 in sixth place. With five players left, a double elimination sent both ‘T20’ and Computer1991’ to the virtual rail, the former with $12.50 and the latter with $15.
‘Computer1991’ held pocket tens, while ‘T20’ had ace-three. It was Sharar’s king-ten that proved the winning hand, however, as a flop of Q-J-8 was followed by an ace on the turn that gave Sharar an unassailable Broadway straight, sending both their opponents to the rail.
Down to three players, ‘rot’ was unable to survive any longer, moving all-in with queen-seven when short-stacked. Called by Rexy with jack-ten, the board was a disaster for the all-in player, as two jacks and only one queen arrived across the community cards. That left ‘rot’ on the outside in third place with $25 and just two players remained.
Heads-up, Sharar still had a better than 2:1 chip lead and soon, all the chips were theirs. Rexy was all-in with five-six, called by Sharar with jack-eight. A flop of J-8-4 looked to doom Rexy but a three on the turn meant any deuce or seven would give the at-risk player the best hand with a straight. Sadly for them, another eight on the river instead gave Sharar a full house and a fittingly dramatic ending to a thrilling LUSPS Freerollers Open finale.
While Rexy took home $50, it was Sharar who won the January LUSPS Freerollers Open final and claimed the top prize of $75. Here are all the finalists for January and what they won from the $250 free prize pool.

January featured four weekly tournaments, giving away another $70 of free money in each on of them. In the first, ‘Blancos’ took home the $20 top prize after beating ‘Mahi’ heads-up for the title, with the runner-up taking home $15. That was after ‘Jesica’ suffered a painful bad beat to cash for $10 in third place. Her ace-queen was not only ahead but dominating Blancos’ queen-ten, but three cards came to give the latter a straight and with it a crucial lead heads-up.
In the second weekly event, ‘New1’ booked the win, beating ‘Leel’ heads-up when king-six of hearts overtook the latter’s ace-seven. A king out of the gate meant ‘New1’ outflopped their last opponent and grabbed victory courtesy of no ace coming to redeem the favorite in the hand.
As January entered its second half, ‘Kalanal08’ booked a win for $20, with ‘New1’ coming second this time out. In the final hand, New1’s nine-four was again behind, but it couldn’t catch ace-eight, a flop of A-7-3 and a queen on the turn meaning that the previous week’s runner-up was drawing dead to the river and could only finish runner-up.
The final weekly finale of the month was won by ‘Chombok’, who took home $20 and then came 17th in the monthly finale to make it $22.50 of free money gained last month. An incredible final hand saw the runner-up ‘lyanuwura’ at risk with jack-four while Chombok held the superior king-nine. A flop of K-J-4 had something for both players but had flipped the script, putting lyanuwura in charge with two pair. There was a plot twist, however, as another king landed on the turn to mark a dramatic rewrite and consign lyanuwura to second place, bumping Chombok to the winner’s circle.
After a dramatic showdown in January where $250 of free money was handed out on Legal U.S. Poker Sites, will you be taking part in the even bigger and better Freerollers Open finale at the end of February? There’s another $250 up for grabs in only three few weeks’ time.
