PokerStars has a signature tournament series, the World Championship of Online Poker, better known as WCOOP. Last year, it celebrated its 20th anniversary on the global dot-com site. Historically, it runs in the fall months. Due to its popularity, PokerStars introduced another version in 2009, the Spring Championship of Online Poker or SCOOP. It attracted even more players because every tournament in the annual series offered three buy-in levels.
When PokerStars started launching in the United States, it brought WCOOP and SCOOP with it.
Last year, there was a PASCOOP for Pennsylvania, MISCOOP for Michigan, and NJSCOOP for New Jersey. Altogether the US version of PokerStars awarded $6.35M. That’s not too shabby.
PokerStars recently announced this year’s SCOOPs for the US market. They will kick off on March 25 in all three states – all running simultaneously this year – and guaranteeing at least $4.5M in prize pools. Even better, PokerStars just launched a new and improved rewards program this week in those states.
NJSCOOP for New Jersey
The smallest of the three markets will offer a series of 35 events with a cumulative guarantee of $1M. Each of those events will offer three buy-in levels, creating a total of 105 tournaments.
Last year, the NJSCOOP delivered 163 individual tournaments, which garnered more than 26K entries and awarded more than $1.36M. The $300 buy-in Main Event alone attracted 1,015 entries and a $284,200 prize pool.
8-Game Mixed Game Master ($1K / $3.5K / $12.5K GTD)
MISCOOP for Michigan
The next biggest market is Michigan, which will guarantee $1.5M. That series offers 40 events, which translates into 120 tournaments.
The 2021 MISCOOP had the same number of tournaments, which garnered more than 40K entries and prize pools worth more than $2.3M. Michiganders’ $300 Main Event alone had 871 entries and a prize pool of $243,880.
Pennsylvania has shown itself to be the largest of the three markets thus far. Its 40 events (120 total tournaments) promise to award at least $2M in the coming weeks.
Last year, there were 41 events for Pennsylvanians, and those 123 individual tournaments attracted more than 47K entries. The total prize pools added up to more than $2.6M, with its $300 buy-in giving out $284,200 from its field of 1,015 entries.

All US Players
Each of the three American markets will offer leaderboard competitions. In addition, players who don’t make the money in any of the tournaments playing before April 9 will receive a second-chance freeroll ticket. They can use those to play $500 daily freerolls through April 3 and $1K daily freerolls from April 4-11. Second-chance tickets will indicate the possibilities.
The wide range of buy-ins allows players to get into the action in every state for as little as $10. However, there are also satellites running for many of the events. And anyone who makes a deposit to play SCOOP will receive a ticket to a Depositor Freeroll, which will run in each state April 3-11. In total, those freerolls will award $16K worth of Main Event tickets in each state.
New Rewards Program
On March 15, PokerStars launched its latest version of PokerStars Rewards in the US market. It will give players the opportunity to earn as much as 33% in loyalty rewards. It is easier to understand than any similar programs in the past. Players can even track their rewards progress, which will show how far they’ve come and how close they are to upgrading to the next level.
Players will earn points for all poker cash games and tournaments at all stakes. In fact, they will earn for action on the sister casino and sports betting sites as well. All players will start at the Blue level. They can then move up to Bronze, Silver, Gold, Diamond, and Black. A new rewards chest will accompany each level, with the value corresponding with the level and play.
Specifics about PokerStars Rewards are available on each state’s site.
