October Qualifiers Stack Up in LUSPS Freerollers Open
October’s Legal U.S. Poker Sites Freerollers Open has continued in style this week, with several more players making the end of month finale that will award a $500 prize pool to the final nine players in seats. Last month, our fantastic final saw $500 in free money awarded on Legal U.S. Poker Sites...so could YOU make the October Freerollers Open final?
As in September’s showdown, October’s Freerollers Open final will end with a $500 prize pool finale, where 87 qualifiers will attempt to win the top prize of $180. Just the final table of nine players will win prizes, with eighth and ninth place worth $10, but third place for example claiming $70 and the runner-up winning $100.
Who will walk away with $180 as the winner?
Here are all the prizes up for grabs at the end of the month:
1st Place: $180
2nd Place: $100
3rd Place: $70
4th Place: $50
5th Place: $35
6th Place: $25
7th Place: $20
8th Place: $10
9th Place: $10
Let’s look at some of the action in October, with some titanic clashes at the online felt sending through winners by the skin of their teeth. In some cases, a river card decided it all as some classic hands played out.
Since the start of October, 39 qualifiers have made the cut. Here are three of the very best final hands from October’s qualifiers so far.
1. Kimimaru vs. Dayson322 - Flushed Away
On the first day of the month, October began in superb style for Kimimaru, who qualified for the month-ending $500 final. However, they didn’t rest on their laurels, continuing to play the freerolls, in the hope that they could win another night and thereby prevent a player from joining them, reducing the number of opponents they would need to beat. Clever play, and it nearly worked, because they made the last two on October 3, up against ‘Dayson322’. The chips went in with Kimimaru needing to improve to stay alive with deuce-four of diamonds. They were behind Dayson322’s queen-seven of hearts but not when a flop of 6-4-2 landed. That gave Dayson322 two pair and left them sweating only a five or another heart to the river, after two had landed on the flop but the innocent eight of clubs hit the turn. A five of hearts came on the river, however, denying Kimimaru a route back into contention and putting Dayson322 into the final. Who knows, perhaps this pair of superb players could meet again in the end of month finale.
2. Brownweed vs. Ssexx - Aces Cracked as Brownweed Joins the Club
On October 13, Brownweed qualified for the month-ending Freerollers Open final in truly unforgettable fashion... cracking pocket aces! The amusingly named ‘Ssexx’ was the player who had the aces and saw that moment as the perfect way of doubling back into contention having got heads-up for a ticket to the final. All-in and called by Brownweed with the big stack, the leader’s hand of ace-five of clubs didn’t look too threatening... that was until the flop of 7-7-2 brought two clubs. Brownweed needed another one and found the nine of clubs on the turn to make the nut flush but still had to survive a sweat on the river. Ssexx had a redraw to two sevens or the case to survive but the three-outer never came, an inconsequential nine on the river meaning Brownweed had booked their seat.
3. ‘pernasonic’ vs. 'liyasilver' - How to Survive a World of Outs
Sometimes, being all-in with the biggest stack and the best hand isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. On October 14, ‘pernasonic’ was in a terrific position, holding over 80% of the chips in play and committing their stack with pocket fours. Called by the at-risk player ‘liyasilver’ with ace-queen, pernasonic needed to fade five cards. Of course, with a very low pair, even the flop of J-8-6 wasn’t completely safe but they stayed ahead. Another six on the turn meant any ace, queen, jack or eight would beat pernasonic’s pair of fours, but despite chasing a dozen outs, liyasilver missed them all as a nine landed on the river and they booked their ticket to October’s Freerollers Open final.
This month’s Freerollers Open qualifiers will send 87 players to the end of October finale, where a $500 prize pool will be divided between the final nine players. Whoever finishes ninth will win $10, while the winner will walk away with an incredible $180 of free money!
39 players have currently qualified, with three per day making the cut.
